At GlobalPost, we are transforming the coverage of international news in the digital age.
We will be the first fully web-based news organization to provide daily coverage of international news. To satisfy a growing need for independent, reliable, insightful and up-to-the-minute coverage and analysis of news in every region of the world, GlobalPost is building a stellar team of 70 correspondents in 53 countries.
We launch January 12, 2009. With the launch days away, check out updates at Executive Editor C.M. Sennott's blog GroundTruth.
GlobalPost will be the center of a worldwide community of internet viewers who want to know how political, economic, technological and social trends over the world connect with their lives, their interests, their investments and their hopes for a better future.
Many mainstream newspapers, magazines and television networks have retreated dramatically from covering international news as globalization has fueled a desire to know more about the world beyond U.S. borders. GlobalPost's passion for international reporting will inform and enlighten the world around us. We will offer written daily dispatches from more than 70 countries as well as discussions and in-depth multimedia reports by an all-star team of some of the top foreign correspondents in the news business.
GlobalPost CEO and President Philip S. Balboni has spent a lifetime building award-winning news teams and has an exceptional record of creativity and entrepreneurship. He has been a pioneer in local and regional television as the founder and president of New England Cable News, the nation's first, largest and most honored regional network. Mr. Balboni has been recognized throughout the industry for NECN's significant journalistic and financial success. He has also been the direct or leadership recipient of scores of national journalism awards, including the Peabody Award, the duPont-Columbia Award and the Edward R. Murrow prize.
GlobalPost Executive Editor and Vice President Charles M. Sennott is an award-winning foreign correspondent and author who brings more than two decades of experience as a reporter and editor to the team. Mr. Sennott is known for breaking news on the front lines of conflict zones in Iraq and Afghanistan and in many other corners of the world. His work has been heralded for its insight and depth. He lived abroad for a decade while serving as Middle East and then Europe bureau chief for the Boston Globe, where he has also been on the vanguard of multimedia projects. Mr. Sennott was a 2006 Nieman Fellow at Harvard University.
As founders of GlobalPost, Balboni and Sennott bring individual strengths to a partnership that grows out of a passion for international news and a shared recognition of a need to redefine it amid a revolution in information technology.
