Jane Arraf  - GlobalPost Correspondent in Iraq

Jane Arraf will cover Iraq for GlobalPost. Ms. Arraf, who was formerly CNN's senior Baghdad correspondent, joined CNN in 1998 as Baghdad bureau chief, covering Iraq through crisis, sanctions and war. Following the 1991 Gulf War, she was the only Western correspondent based in Iraq. In 2001, she moved to Istanbul, Turkey to serve as the network's bureau chief, returning to Baghdad in 2002. She was expelled by the Iraqi government in fall 2002 after covering a protest of families demanding information on their missing sons. Returning to Turkey, Arraf covered the Turkish government's decision to reject U.S. troops in the run-up to war. She covered Operation Iraqi Freedom for the network from the north of Iraq, providing live coverage from cities and towns along the front lines as Iraqi troops withdrew. Ms. Arraf was one of the first reporters into Mosul, arriving before U.S. forces as parts of the city were looted and burned. Following the end to major combat operations, she returned to Baghdad as bureau chief. Named Senior Baghdad Correspondent in 2004, she now spends most of her time on the front lines in Iraq. Ms. Arraf has also covered the war in Kosovo. Before joining CNN, she worked as reporter/producer for Reuters Financial Television (RFTV) in Washington, where her assignments included covering the White House, Capitol Hill and the Treasury Department. Ms. Arraf also served as Reuters Bureau Chief in Jordan from 1990 to 1993. She began her career as a Reuters correspondent in Montreal. Ms. Arraf studied journalism at Carleton University in Ottawa.
