Jan Cienski - GlobalPost Correspondent in Poland
Jan Cienski will write for GlobalPost from Warsaw, Poland, where he will focus on Poland's complicated economic and political integration with the European Union. He is the Warsaw bureau chief of the Financial Times, and covers the Czech Republic and Slovakia. He has been in Warsaw since 2003. He spent five years as the Washington correspondent for the National Post, a Canadian newspaper. He also spent several years in the United States working for the Associated Press. From 1992 to 1995 he worked in Moscow for the German News Agency DPA, and was freelanced in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. He started as a reporter working in Warsaw for United Press International in 1989 and 1990. He was born in South Africa in 1965 and later lived in Canada, where he received a degree in international relations from the University of Toronto.
